Moving Around the
Chart
Theradar is redrawntothescale and headingmode of the chart.
Theradar is settoTruemotionso that the radarandchart imagesremain
synchronised asthe vesselmoves.
Note:Depending on the topologyof the coastline,the radarreturnsmay not
relatetothecharted shoreline, theradar imagewillthereforebe differentto
thechartdisplay.Forexample,agentlyslopingbeachwithacliffseveralhun-
dredmetresbeyondthe charted coastline,thecliffisnotshownon thechart
butwillbe displayedonthe radarimage.
Changing the Chart Scale
TheRANGE keyallowsyou to change thechartscale so thatyou can see a
smaller or largerareaon thescreen.
Plottermodeisavailabletoallowyou to zoom intoa smallerarea,even when
nochartdataisavailableforthatscale.Section 7.7describeshowtosetplotter
modeon/off.
Youcanchangethe chart scalefor two purposes:
To seeeithermoredetail(ofasmallerarea)or a largerarea(inlessdetail)
onthe screen.
Tomovethedisplaytoanotherareaofthechart,byzoomingouttoasmall
scalechart,then zooming in on anotherpositioncenteredonthecursor.
Thecartographic detailavailableoncharts variesaccording tothe chartscale
andsome areas includedetailatsmallerscalesthanothers.This cancause
blankareasonthedisplaywhen adjacentareaswithdifferent levelsof detail
aredisplayed.To reduce this affect you can use the Chart Set Up options(see
Section 7.7)tosetchartdisplaydetailtosimple.Then,asyouzoomin,charted
areasaredisplayedbut with lessdetailshown.
Eachtimeyou press the RANGE key,the chartscalechangestothenext
available setting. The statusbar indicates the distancefromtoptobottomof
thescreen,in nauticalmiles.
