the FLOAT function
Note:Analternativemethodofmeasuringrangeandbearingistousethecur-
sordatabox: Ifthecursorreadout issettodisplayrange andbearing(rather
thanLat/Long),youcandeterminetherangeand bearingbymovingthecur-
soroverthe targetand checkingthecursordataboxreadings.You can also
estimatetherangeto a targetbyreferenceto the rangerings.
Measuring Range and Bearing to Target from Vessel
To measurethe range and/orbearingof a target or pointfrom your vessel’s
position,youneedtoplacea VRM/EBL and move it so that itcrossesthe
target or pointforwhich you requirethebearingorrange.
Whenyou turn on a VRM/EBL,it is displayedin its last-usedposition.
Note:If the VRM’s last-usedposition isoutsidethe radar pictureat the cur-
rentrange setting,itisplacedat its defaultpositioninstead.This is one third
oftherange for VRM1, and two-thirdsfor VRM2.
Placing a VRM/EBL
PlacingandpositioningVRM/EBLs on the PathfinderPlus Radar displayis
quickand easy.
• IfaVRM/EBL isnotalreadydisplayed,you can place one witha single
pressof the VRM/EBL key.
• Ifyouhavealreadyplaceda VRM/EBL,pressingtheVRM/EBL key pro-
videssoftkeycontrolof additionalfunctions.
➤ To placea VRM/EBLwhen one is not alreadydisplayed:
1. PressVRM/EBL.
The radar picture shows VRM/EBL1, together with its associated data
boxin its last-usedposition.
Asshownin Figure 3-12,the cursoris positionedover the intersection of
theVRM circleand the EBL line.It hascontroloftheVRM/EBLasindi-
cated by the four-way arrow, the solid VRM/EBL line, and the text VRM/
EBL.
