6.4 Man Overboard (MOB)
Ifyouloseapersonorobjectoverboard,andneedtoreturntothelocation,you
shoulduse theMan Overboard(MOB)function.
Youcanselectthe typeof data usedfor theMOBpositionusingthe set up
menus(seeSection 7.3).
Note:To obtainMOB position, you need eitherofthefollowing:
• Positiondatafroma GPSor equivalentdevice
• Headingandspeeddata, so thatthe positioncan be calculatedbydead
reckoning
➤ To initiate the MOB procedure,pressandholdtheMARKS key for two
seconds.The systemthen performsthe followingtasksautomatically:
• Redrawsthechartat1/2nm(evenifcartographyisnotavailablebutplotter
modeison).
• Marksthe currentpositionwith a MOB symbol whichreplaces any
currentactivewaypointandroute.
• Displays the MOBdata box, showingthebearingand distancefrom your
vesseltotheMOBwaypointposition,andtheelapsedtimesincetheMOB
wasinitiated (Figure 6-3).
• Displays the positiondatabox,showing your vessel’s position.
• Asyour vessel moves fromtheMOB position,adottedlineisdisplayed
connectingtheMOBsymboland the vessel’s currentposition.
• Soundsa 4-secondalarm patternevery30 seconds.
• Sendsan MOB message(includingbearingand distance)to otherunitsin
thesystem,via the SeaTalk connection.
